A. Audience

Let’s say our training program is to develop leadership skills in managers. Who would our audience be? What is the location of the audience? What level of skills do they have? What other considerations are important to consider? For example,

The target audience for this program includes individuals who are currently successful managers, highly skilled technical specialists leading projects, or individuals who have been identified as high-potential employees. The ABC Leadership Program is an especially effective strategic tool in building depth and breadth to support executive continuity, bench strength, and global deployment plans.

In other words, the present skill level of the audience is important to consider, because you want your training program to meet the needs of the group. In other words, the training program needs to consider the various characteristics of the target audience, as well considering the location (located in one place versus spread out in various locations) of the audience. Since it is a professional group, dress attire for the trainer will need to match that of the audience, as would the language used by the trainer (e.g., instructor led).

Pitfall: Avoid current skill level, as this will lead to a lack of motivation in learner, amongst other things. Not matching the level of knowledge and experience of the trainer with audience could be a pitfall (e.g., trainer who can talk at the executive level using appropriate business examples, etc.). Ignoring location information can also lead to problems in attendance.

B. Delivery method

What is the best way to reach this audience? What method of delivery is the most effective and cost efficient means of delivery?
