Check My Assignment!Publishing scientific papers is necessary for researchers to receive credit for their work, to inform the community (and world) of their findings, and to promote further discussion, research and funding for the field in which they work.
You will be doing the same with one of your laboratory experiments. Your groupwill submit a typed lab report, organized like a scientific paper, including each of the following sections.
ABSTRACT: (1 paragraph)
This is a quick summary of the experiment and findings.
INTRODUCTION: (0.5 – 1 page)
Describe the phenomena being studies and the scientific question you are trying to answer. What is the purpose of the study…why is it important? What were your predicted outcomes?
METHODS: (0.5 – 1 page)
Describe the instruments/gear and methods used to conduct the scientific research. Discuss any advantages or limitations of the gear/methods. This is a description of your equipment list and procedure. It is also acceptable to include a drawing (numbered like the results below) demonstrating the lab set-up. If you selected to change your procedure for the second attempt, this is where you discuss what changes you made and why. This should be written in paragraph form!
RESULTS: (2-3 figures)
The results should be presented as tables, graphs, or charts. Each figure should include a caption explaining the content and source of the data. Figures should be numbered for reference in the text portion of the paper. This should represent all of your data (good and bad) from the experiment
DISCUSSION: (~1-2 pages)
This section should include an explanation of the results. Do findings agree or disagree with one another? Do they agree or disagree with your predictions? What are the implications of the results? What problems did you encounter? What are your sources of error? (Did your changes to the procedure improve your data and results?)
CONCLUSION: (0.5 – 1page)
Summarize the questions, answers and major implications. What would you have done differently? What do you think should be the next step? What questions remain? What new questions arise?
NOTE: Papers should be 2.5 – 5 typed pages, using double spacing (length applies to text only, not figures). Use headings listed above to separate sections.

ABSTRACT: (1 paragraph)
To begin with, our purpose of this experiment is to explore the relationship between the magnitude of buoyancy and the volume of discharged liquid; Learning the operation skills of physical experiments and mastering the application of control variable method.
INTRODUCTION: (0.5 – 1 page)
METHODS: (0.5 – 1 page)
In this experience, we need one spring dynamometer, a beaker, three different weight and water. From the spring dynamometer, we can clearly know what is the data of the grams and newtons. Three different of the weight can helps us measure the various data in order to get the result for this experience. First of all, we have to check whether the equipment is complete, the spring dynamometer is in good condition, and observe whether the pointer refers to the zero scale line. If it does not refer to the zero scale, it needs to be adjusted. In this experience, we need to find the point that is half of the weight. However, it will be difficult to make sure the exactly value of the half point because we only can use our eyes to determine the position and there is no numbers on the weight. Another disadvantage for our instrument will be that the beaker is not big enough for us to measure the different shape of the weight. The 1000G of the weight will be our maximize weight to measure in this experience.
RESULTS: (2-3 figures)
In this experience, we use three different weight to test whether or not the volume of an object in water affects buoyancy. First of all, we poured 200 liters of water into a measuring cup as the base of our experience. At first, we used 200G weight to measure the data. The force was 2N when the weight was not in the water. When we put the weight in half of the water, the force became 1.75N which decrease 0.25 and the force decrease 0.4 when the water cover all of the weight. We use 500G weight as our second item. The force decrease 0.5N when we cover half of the weight and decrease 1N when the water cover all of the weight. The last, we use 1000 G weight which is the heaviest weight we measure in this experience. The force decrease 1.5N when half of the weight got cover and decrease 2N when the weight completely got cover.
| The mass of the weight | 200 G | 500 G | 1000 G |
| Without any water | 2N | 5N | 10N |
| Water cover half of the weight | 1.75N | 4.5N | 8.5N |
| Water cover all of the weight | 1.6N | 4N | 8N |
DISCUSSION: (~1-2 pages)
CONCLUSION: (0.5 – 1page)
After doing this experience, I understand the relationship between the magnitude of buoyancy and the volume of discharged liquid. However, there are few things that I would’ve done differently. First of all, we didn’t have the exactly value about the half point of the weight. This will defenelity influence the data that we got. Therefore, it is the consideration that I should improve in this experience since having the correct data is the essential part in the experience. Secondly, because of the the restriction on the size of the beaker, we couldn’t have the chance to do the more diversified types of weight. According to the experience, we already know that the weight will affect the buoyancy. However, we are also curious about whether the shapes of the weight will makes the data differently. Therefore, we left a question about the relationship between the different shapes of the weight and the buoyancy.
