Within the managerial accounting field, I believe the Transformational Leadership Theory would most effectively impact employee performance. The Transformational Leadership Theory bases success on charismatic leaders, who lead by inspiring subordinates to adopt high goals for themselves and the company and then strive to achieve them (Spector, 2012, p.342). As a woman in the accounting field, the odds are already stacked against you. “Despite their success at lower levels of management, American women are still underrepresented at the higher levels of organizations” (Spector, 2012, p. 345). Bill Carlino, Editor-in-Chief at Accounting Today indicates that “one of the most cited statistics in accounting is that more than half of accounting graduates are female, but women comprise something on the order of 15 percent of partners and shareholders at accounting firms” (Carlino, 2010, p. 3). This information has kept consistent as Gale Crosley points to the same issue four years earlier in a separate article. “Although 57 percent of today’s accounting graduates are women, only 10 percent to 15 percent of firm partners are female” (Crosley, 2006, p. 9). As we’ve seen above, women in accountancy fall even further behind men. Because women in leadership positions within accountancy are consistently hitting the glass ceilings in their levels, I believe that they need charismatic leadership. These……………………………
