Individual course goals:
- Have a better understanding of this RN’s organization-this goal was accomplished by doing the assigned work. One assignment that helped learn more about the organization was using the SWOT analysis. The SWOT analysis allowed this RN to look at her organization’s mission, vision, values, & goals; strengths; weaknesses; opportunities; and threats. It gave this RN a better understanding of where the organization came from and where it is heading in the future.
- Have the ability to analyze issues affecting nursing practice-this goal was accomplished by doing the change topic presentation. This RN was able to focus on one issue that affects nursing practice. It allowed this RN to use critical thinking and come up with solutions to change this issue.
- Enhance leadership skills to use in the workplace and in school-this goal was also accomplished. This RN stepped up in another class to become a group leader. This RN used good communication throughout the process. This RN also used the information from this class to help become a better leader.
Course assignments:
Course assignments consisted of discussions and one presentation. The discussions allowed the students to use critical thinking while interacting with the other students. Communication with the other students in the discussions helped this RN learn even more. The students came from various nursing backgrounds with a variety of experience levels. The RNs who have been working longer helped shed more light on topics. The change presentation allowed the students to pick a topic that they would like to see changed in their workplace or health care, in general. It allowed this RN to use her decision making process. - strategies for implementation
