Mitsubishi Outlander III versus Nissan Qashqai J11
Once Marshall McLuhan said: “The car has become… an article of dress without which we feel uncertain, unclad, and incomplete”. Nowadays, most of the people cannot imagine their lives without cars. They represent fast and comfort means of transportation that are classified by body types, including sedan, CUV, cabriolet, pickup truck, hatchback, and others. Crossover Utility Vehicle is a hybrid of a light truck and an ordinary four-seated car. That type of auto is prevalent among people. Cloud (2003) tells that last year, crossover market had a hike up to 30 percent. The Mitsubishi Outlander III and The Nissan Qashqai J11, which were released several years ago, also belongs to a CUV class. Both of them have similarities as well as differences. Surprisingly, it is still unknown which automobile is more appropriate for driving in the city and countryside. In order to answer that question, this essay provides compare and contrast analysis between the Mitsubishi Outlander III and the Nissan Qashqai J11.
The Nissan Qashqai J11 and the Mitsubishi Outlander III differ in safety. The Nissan Qashqai J11 is less safe auto for a driver. This car has a low, wide, and long form that increases chances for the accident (Nissan introduces new Qashqai, 2014). Moreover, the primary source metal represents a light version of simple steel, so the full weight of the automobile is only 1350kgs. It can cause significant damage to the body of the car during the crash. In addition, The Nissan Qashqai J11 has only six safety air bags that can decline passenger’s chance of survival. However, O’Carroll (2014) reminds about active protection systems of this vehicle, including moving object detection system, Nissan’s top-down camera system, blind spot warning system, and land departure warning. They allow the driver to decrease the probability of car incident. The Mitsubishi Outlander III, on the other hand, is very safe. Firstly, Berg (2013) admits the safety due to “high-strength steel in the modified floor and body framing” (p. 41). It uses a heavy metal for the body resulting in impressive 1425kgs. The heavier weight, the smaller physical deformation the car will get during the accident. Unlike the Nissan Qashqai J11, the Mitsubishi Outlander III boasts seven air bags as well as reversing cameras and sensors with ANCAP safety rating (Oxley, 2015). At the same time, this auto has some additional passive safety systems, like cruise control and a protection against water leak in the airbag (2003 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2006). Nelson (2015) informs that in 2013, the Mitsubishi Outlander III won a “Top Safety Pick+” reward from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In summary, instead of getting severe or fatal health injuries after a serious car crash, the owner of the Mitsubishi Outlander III receives only slight scratches.
The Nissan Qashqai J11 and the Mitsubishi Outlander III have differences in performance. The Nissan Qashqai J11 is more efficient on roads. This CUV goes with 1.2 petrol engine that provides the maximum speed of 185 km/h. Also, it gives an optimal fuel consumption of 3.8L/100Km and small exhaust of 99g/km CO2 (Nissan introduces new Qashqai, 2014). Furthermore, the crossover has electronic transmission and four-wheel-drive which grant to reach an acceleration to 100 km/h for 10.6 seconds only. Meanwhile, the Mitsubishi Outlander III has inefficient 2.0 petrol engine. Oxley (2015) warns that the engine has a limit of the maximum speed of 185kph with high fuel consumption: 7.2L/100km. In addition, the exhaust of CO2 of such an engine can exceed enormous 173g/km. Need to say, CO2 is the biggest contributor to air pollution deaths. Due to recent reports, 6.5 million people died in 2015 (Welch, 2017). However, Berg (2013) proposes that the Outlander manufacturer is working on a new aerodynamic styling in order to reduce fuel use and CO2 fumes. The automobile presents a 4WD model with a variator transmission that, unfortunately, has a 0-100km slow sprint time of 11.4 seconds (Making commercial sense, 2012). At the end, the performance of Nissan Qashqai J11 allows driving for long distances between cities in less amount of time, whereas the Mitsubishi Outlander III is more suitable for slow city’s traffic.
The Nissan Qashqai J11 and the Mitsubishi Outlander III vary in comfort. The Nissan Qashqai J11 offers fewer systems and options for driver’s and passenger’s comfortableness. This vehicle has Intelligent Park Assist self-parking system and automatic anti-dazzle rear view mirror that let to complete parking process faster and easier. Nevertheless, the presence of rear privacy glass, which is very dark, in a crossover brings some difficulties for beginner drivers on the road and parking area. Even though, the cabin is equipped with several conveniences, for example, radio with a 5-inch display, power folding heated leather front seats and door mirrors and a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat (O’Carroll, 2014). Compared to The Nissan Qashqai J11, the Mitsubishi Outlander III carries parking assist system and automatic rear view mirror without rear privacy glass. That is, a driver has a clear vision of a situation behind his CUV. Similarly, the Mitsubishi Outlander III affords all cabin’s options of the Nissan Qashqai J11, counting radio, and controlled heated mirrors and seats (including rear seats), plus, few other things. Oxley (2015) states that all models of this crossover a 6.1-inch touch screen with satellite navigation. In addition, the CUV contributes Bluetooth technology as a standard feature (Making commercial sense, 2012). As a result, the vehicle may be controlled by a smartphone. To sum up, people in the Mitsubishi Outlander III can feel more pleasure and relaxation during a traffic jam in the city rather than passengers of the Nissan Qashqai J11.
Overall, clearly the Mitsubishi wins out over the Nissan in terms of safety and comfort. However, the Nissan has an advantage in performance. In other words, the Mitsubishi Outlander III, which is very safe and comfort but quite slow, is more appropriate for cities, whereas fast Nissan Qashqai J11 is excellent for countryside journeys.
