FIVE Actions. Develop Five specific action Plans (or Goal) to Enhance My Influence Skills. Each Plan (or Goal) should be about 2 pages.
Note: ONLY to influence. Do NOT include any content related to negotiation.
Each Action Plan (please use headers) should include the three elements listed below. You may use “bullet point” format. It is expected that the student addresses influence competencies which they wish to enhance. The written examination should demonstrate in-depth personal thinking.
• A goal statement. This should be SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound). These goals must be specifically related to INFLUENCE. They CANNOT be “general business” goals (NOT: I want to do accounting better.).
• Action Steps to Accomplish Your Goal. This should include a step-by-step plan (approximately 5 action steps), including deadlines, required resources ($$, time, personnel), and people involved (their role and their involvement)
• Evaluation Plan. This should include “milestone” check points, and a plan for determining how you will know you are on track toward your goal and how you will know once your goal has been achieved. (think: measurable and time-bound).

How students go “off track” completing this assignment:
• They do not complete all FIVE action plans.
• They provide “general” improvements (“I will strive to use influence better”) rather than specific actions, such as “I evaluate the influence that I exhibit with Purchasing meetings and the buyer from ABC Company. They do not use headers for each element of the Action Plan.
• They do not use action plans SPECIFIC to influence. Rather they use general business improvements (example of what NOT to use: I will work on my accounting skills).
• They do not include specific evaluation plans. They include a “general” statement such as “I will measure my results when I finish” instead of a specific plan, such as I will rate myself on a scale o f 1-10, ten being the best. I will increase level of performance each time I try to influence a decision.”
• Students do not edit their papers.
• Students skip elements (they do the “goal” and “Action Steps” but fail to include the “Evaluation Plan”).
