Little is known about my mother’s side of the family except that they are part French, Cherokee and German. I do know that a great uncle from long ago traveled to the New England area as an indentured servant, fell in love with a Quaker girl and later married her. I was also told that my maternal great-grandmother was full-blood Cherokee. I’m not certain if this is true because I have done a great deal of research to prove this, but all the records end with her parents. Tradition and culture has never been something of importance to my mother’s side of the family. They were all hard-working farmers who kept to themselves and minded their own business. Being that my father is a full-blood Italian, we have adopted his culture and traditions. As many Italians are, I was raised Roman Catholic, attended Sunday school, religion classes and completed my sacraments. Since meeting my husband, the entire family has converted to Protestantism (non-denominational), but my paternal grandparents passed away before the family did this. The conversion would have upset them. When my paternal grandparents were alive, certain traditions were important.
My father and his sisters did not care so much about the traditions as they did about keeping my grandpm………………………
