I am a 38 year old wife and mother of one son, with a daughter on the way. I graduated from Alcorn State University in 2000 with Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy. Upon graduation I opened a Christian dance studio called Footprints. Dance is my passion, as well as my love for children. I’ve been involved with various church, educational, and youth organizations since 1997, all involving teaching dance and mentoring. My most recent experience, teaching in the local school district where I live, motivated me to return to school to further my education. At one of the middle schools, I taught six dance classes per day (with over 25 students in each class), for a substitute teacher’s pay, because my emergency certification didn’t get approved. I loved the teaching aspect of the job, but the money wasn’t worth the headache that came with administration and student disciplinary problems. I contemplated walking away so many times, but by the grace of God I stuck it out, because I made a commitment to the school. When I was first offered the job, I was told that I would get a 1 year Expert Citizens Licensure, but halfway through the first semester, I was told my license had been denied.
