This week’s focus was to reflect on a patient who presented with cardiovascular or genetic disorders. I had the opportunity to assess a 6-year-old with a heart murmur. Heart murmurs are usually because there is a defective heart valve which causes the blood to move backward through the valve when it should be closed (American Heart Association, 2016). I never have heard one prior to this so when I listened to the heart and heard the sound that was my “aha” moment.
