Check My Assignment!This course looks at the organizational and societal context in which health care is delivered in the U.S. A historical perspective is developed early in the semester. Building on this, the course explores existing health care policy and delivery systems including legislation, the professional disciplines, organizations and health networks, forms of care delivery, consumer needs, and economics and funding. The ability of the current health care system to serve all segments of the U.S. population is examined in depth. Global health needs are examined as a minor theme. The course ends with a focus on future forms for delivery that would improve the health care status of the American population as a whole.
Course objectives:
- Describe the historical development of the health care delivery system in the U.S.
- Identify and critique the current organizational forms of American health care
- Delineate financing mechanisms for health services and broad economic considerations impacting health financing
- Identify branches and levels of government and the impact of those offices on health policy
- Assess the effectiveness of the delivery system and the impact of those offices on health policy
- Explore resources to enhance understanding of issues related to health policy
- Identify future directions and forms of a health care delivery system that would improve health status of all Americans
The course objectives were achieved through the learning modules each week. Weekly discussions focused on each of the course objectives each week. The weekly learning modules allowed students to use their critical thinking skills to achieve the course objectives.
Individual course goals:
- Review the branches and levels of government, while gaining a better understanding of their roles in health care policy-This goal was achieved through the weekly discussions. During one week, students were required to review the three branches of government. Students were also required to identify their representatives on the local, state, and federal level.
- Understand where America’s health care started-This goal was accomplished through doing the required readings. It was understood that health care began with more of a physician-patient relationship.
- Identify issues related to health care now and be able to propose solutions-This goal was accomplished by doing the group paper. An issue was identified through the group paper and suggestions were made how it could be changed. This goal was also accomplished through weekly discussions.
Course assignments:
Course assignments included group discussions and a group paper. Weekly questions are posted in which students are required to post their answers and reply to other students’ posts. There are also weekly critical reflections. The critical reflections are used to develop students’ critical thinking skills. The group paper allows students to work in groups of 2-3 to identify a current issue in health care. Focuses vary from issues at a local level to issues at a federal level. It required students to use critical thinking while working together as a team.
Attached are two discussions. These discussions identified issues related to health care and solutions that are being implemented. This discussions helped achieve my goals in this class. Also attached is the group paper. The group paper focuses on the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, and the effects it will have on the United. States.
