A situation, in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome, is when US automotive manufacturing companies like Ford and GM realized their legacy costs and non-competitive business models would mean the end of the dominance of the US Auto industry. Moving to smaller sized vehicles and considering fuel efficiency and hybrid technology was creative. This creativity allowed the companies to justify the billions of dollars they got in bail out money from the US government, because they were innovative in the way they planned to address their problem, They could have left their product lines full of SUV’s and Big low mileage trucks and demanded the US government put protective tariffs in place to keep foreign exports out or so expensive that their US manufacture cars would be the only affordable car in the nation.
