So much is expected of todays’ nurses. Eight years ago, the Institute of Medicine (IOM), rolled out its paraphernalia for quality care outreach. According to the national academy of sciences, (2015), one of its conditions for attaining its lofty heights was that 80 % of nurses must be BSN degree holders by the year 2020. However, that proposal was remarkably silent on how to fund this dream for improvement in the quality of the nursing workforce.
That was not the only expectations for nurses to pursue individual upliftment. Contemporary nurses are required to apply new study and evidence-based practice to become change agents in their clinical areas (Chamberlain College of Nursing, 2018). This requires again that nurses should further their education to attain the qualification of quality care providers status.
Education is however very expensive, though personal improvement in the realm of knowledge is invaluable. For the future, my intention is to improve my quality as a nursing professional. However, I also have to reconsider the reality that my educational pursuit comes at huge indebtedness to a society that is characteristically brutal when it comes to collecting debts.
Belonging to a professional organization is a step in the right direction. So, I will definitely research for the ones that would be viable for my future development as a nurse. I will take a 3 to 4 months break to consider if I should march on with my master’s program. My decision would depend a lot on my current educational tabs and how I can be able to reduce these debts.
