How to cite:
Because this is an oral presentation, you will be citing your sources orally. You can use the author(s)’ last name and the date in your oral citations. For example, in the city overview section you might say: “According to the Berndtson 2018 article, the City of College Park was founded in 1856.” The economic, environmental, and social pillar segments will draw most of the information from the plan itself, so citations during these segments need not be as frequent. An example of citing in these sections includes: “As indicated in the Community chapter of the 2018 College Park Sustainability Plan, the city…..”. The recommendation and improvement section does require you to cite a new source outside of the plan itself, and here again oral citations become important. For example, “We recommend that the City of College Park adopt a ban on all combustion engines, similar to what Luna describes in his 2018 article on sustainability in Copenhagen. In the article he recommends…..”. Citing is a bit trickier in oral presentations, and it should be interspersed with your own interpretation of the facts as well. I’m happy to review scripts to check for instances of over or under citing. Other examples of oral acknowledgement include:
