Behaviourism theory is a significant learning theory which explores in an objective manner the behaviours that can be observed and involves the independent mind activities triggered by the mind.

Learning, according to the theory, involves acquisition of unique and new attributes concerning the environmental conditions.

The behaviourism theory uses conditioning as the universal process through which earning takes place. In connection to this there are two critical theories of conditioning which are able to bring about a diverse pattern of learning or behavioural influence.

The two types of conditioning includes, classic and operant or behavioural conditioning.

Classic conditioning takes place through response to stimuli through stimulation of natural reflexes. This is to mean that children and every human being is biologically modelled such that a given stimulus is able to bring about a given response. For instance, in a school environment students may show this type of response through anxieties and irrational fears such as fear of peaking in public, school phobia and fearing to fail.

On the other hand, the operant conditioning involves the reinforcement of a response to a stimulus. This is to mean that operant conditioning is simply a feedback system such that a reinforcement or reward comes after a response to a certain stimulus and this response becomes more defined with time. For instance, a behaviourist named BF Skinner came up with the theory through use of reinforcement methods in teaching pigeons to dance.

In addition, behaviourism learning theory, that believes that behaviour gets shaped through the use of negative or positive reinforcement. This is to say that the antecedent attributes if students is increased by use of either of this triggers. For instance, the use of punishment will stop the students from repeating a given behaviour while the use of rewards or positive reinforcement means that certain behaviour is encouraged.

How learning occurs

Learning takes place through associations. This is to mean that the classical conditioning believes in working through coming up with associations among the natural stimulus and environmental stimulus. A great physiologist known as Ivan Pavlov came up with some classic experiments that associated dogs salivation with the sound of a bell. This is the same manner through which students learn through being repeatedly provided with some information until their minds are triggered to response in simple exposure to such a stimuli.

Classical condition can be influenced by diverse factors. The first apart of classic conditioning is known as the acquisition stage where a response is strengthened and established. This involves factors that have timing and prominence stimuli and their role in acquisition. This is to mean that when the association is removed also known as the extinction the behaviour weakens and disappears. This is to indicate that even to students their behaviours are motivated by strength of the stimulus provided and when they no longer see these stimuli they fails to produce the expected behaviour.

Learning takes place through punishments and rewards. This is to mean that students are able to learn better when they are rewarded with gifts and motivation and de-motivated when punishment is offered to certain behaviour. For instance, when a parent keeps on praising the child when he or she clears up the table after meals, the child will be motivated to build on this behaviour they always making sure the table is cleaned.

Schedules are also important in developing operating conditioning. This is to mean that in every behaviour that comes with rewards there should be timing of every event. The students in this a case can be rewarded after doing some timed exercise and this that pass with a certain rate are positively rewarded. Partial rewards can also be introduced to make the behaviour more defined.

The theory has vital strengths as it changes the behaviours of the children through; behaviour analysis, Intensive behaviour intervention, discrete trails, token economies

Differences in individual learners

Learners have many differences which makes them strong and weak in certain areas and subjects. This is to mean that a student is strong in areas that have huge reinforcements and becomes weak due to lack of right motivation.

The differences in learners also occurs due to the perception of the teachers, family background, disabilities, environment, role models, resources,

Family role in children learning

Families are some of the most important unity when it comes to child learning and development. Families enhance children cognitive and emotional growth through relationships, loyalty interaction and participation in family activities. However, parents should not be put under a lot of pressure to make the children perform and behave better. This is because through life parents similar to children make mistakes and this are the best areas to learn and try doing things better.

Ways children learn from families: values, security, consistency, coping skills, relationships
