Check My Assignment!Initial post due Sunday, 11:59 p.m. CT and 2 substantive reply posts due by Wednesday, 11:59 p.m. CT. Submit your postings to Discussion Board 2.1.
(A “substantive” reply post should have academic support or include personal insight on the subject, drawing from your experiences. A response such as “I agree” or “good job” will not meet the assignment criteria. I am not discouraging you from providing encouraging words to your peers, but if you choose to do that, you must also meet the above substantive feedback criteria to receive credit for your postings. A substantive response should be a minimum of 8-10 well-structured sentences and posted as a “reply”to the original assignment posting.)
This assignment requires you to begin to appreciate the role of constitutional law in determining the way we live. Following a review of the four cases listed in your required readings, you will partake in a discussion demonstrating an understanding of the impact those cases have had on daily life in the United States. Some of you may be questioning how this fits into “investigations”. As you will learn throughout this program, the field of investigations is extremely diverse and crosses over many social boundaries in both the public and private sector. Having a better understanding and appreciation of our constitutional rights provides and important foundation for your future endeavors.
In Assignment 2.2, you will be asked to provide written case briefs of all four cases.
In your initial post, please include the following information:
- Comment upon the impact each case has had upon contemporary behavior and morals in the United States of the 21st century.
- Comment upon how the specific rulings in each case have impacted rules and regulations within your own community.
- Comment upon how your individual sense of right and wrong are impacted by these decisions.
- Provide your opinion on the matter of whether the Constitution is a “living” document subject to flexible interpretation.
In your reply posts:
- Critically examine the postings of all of your peers and, based upon your analysis of the information provided, discuss your reaction to two (2) of your class colleagues opinions. Reminder: These reply posts are due by Wednesday.
2.2—Written Assignment (Due Tuesday, 11:59 p.m. CST) (100 points):
This written assignment requirement is for case briefs, submitted in APA format, using 12 point font. In addition, your paper should include a cover page, abstract and reference page. A total of 4 external scholarly sources must be cited in support of your position. Answer the following questions and post your assignment as a .doc file attachment to the link provided under Assignment 2.2.
Beginning with the landmark cases examined in your Discussion Board postings, the Supreme Court has attempted to balance the legitimate interest of the states in maintaining public safety and security with each citizen’s rights of privacy and individual liberty.
Following a review of the assigned reading materials, submit case briefs on all four previously listed cases. Upon completion of all of the briefs, make a reasoned prediction as to the direction of future decisions in all four areas. For example, does the case of Loving v. Virginia predict the elimination of marriage restrictions between consenting adults and will Miranda v. Arizona limit law enforcements ability to stop and search within public schools and private spaces?
