You will use your camera to take photographs of the 10 different element examples listed below.
The subjects used in your photographs should be everyday objects or things that you would not normally consider art or artistic. If you think the object or thing you want to photograph might be considered visual art made by a human, don’t use it for your project.
The photographs cannot be of artwork of any kind nor can you use photographs that you already have taken. They must be taken for the project, not of your family vacation for example.
Do not arrange objects or things to photograph. (Do not create a still life; move objects or people to set up the perfect example.) Take pictures of objects as you find them. Instead of moving the objects or people, move yourself around and find another example to photograph.
The subjects must be of observations in your everyday life. The more original and interesting your photograph is, the better your grade will be.
You can take as many photographs as you like and choose the 10 best examples for your project.
You should only have 2 photos on each page, 5 pages total. If you have trouble pasting 2 photographs per page, don’t worry about it, just paste 1 photograph per page. Each page containing photographs
should have the specific type of art element typed above or below the photograph explaining what is represented. Be very specific. I shouldn’t have to guess.
You must also add the additional text similar to the sample to clarify where the elements appear in your photograph.
As an example: the photograph contains cars in a parking lot to represent analogous colors. Type text above or below the photograph letting me know which three cars in the parking lot represent the three analogous colors. Be specific.
Don’t expect me to guess where the focus of the photograph should be. If the text doesn’t make it obvious, then the image will be counted as wrong and points will be deducted from your project.
If you are comfortable using editing software, you can add arrows or circle the area of the photograph showing the element. This is not a substitute for the typed statement.
Create a Word document or other document and place your photographs on the pages. Place two photographs per page. Size them to fit the page with enough room left over to add the descriptive text above or below each photo. It may be easier to add the definition on the document first. Then insert the photo below the definition.
If you only take landscape (horizontal format, ie. wider than tall) photos, they will fit the pages better.

Once all the photos are on the document you can lower the resolution by doing the following if the photos are on a Word document: Left click once inside the first photo. Click on Format. Click on Compress Pictures. Under Apply, click All. Under Change Resolution, click Web/Screen. Under Options, click Compress Pictures and Delete Cropped Areas. Click Ok.
This option lowers the resolution of all the photos to 96 dpi (dots per inch) which will make the document easier to submit. If you use other document software the procedure to lower the dpi may be different. Go to the Help menu of the software program and search for the solution. Or try Google or YouTube for photo resolution procedures. Here are two websites that may be useful for resizing your photographs.

You can also resize and change the resolution of your photos using any photo editing software. The photos should be saved at a low resolution for easy downloading and uploading, 75-100 dpi. If it takes a long time for your PDF document to open then your photo resolution is too large and you may have problems submitting your projects later. If you use Word to create your project document, then save a copy as a PDF document for submission. The PDF version is the only correct document type to submit for a grade. When taking photographs for your final project you should be original and look for interesting and unusual examples. You should not use the same subject more than once as that would take points off for lack of originality. Other subjects that are not very original would be clouds or people for shapes, and a road for one-point perspective. Use close up images. Wide distance images make it difficult to tell what you intended to focus on for the element. You may not use artwork as an example. I do not want to see any photos of collegeCampuses or any school campus. Do not look up examples on the internet and then photograph your computer screen, tablet screen, photograph your computer.
