Step One. Select an article related to organization and influence. Be very careful when selecting this article that is related to organizations and peoples’ behaviors. Sometimes students go “off track” with article selection by choosing an article that is NOT about organizational influence (example: The influence of gamma rays on sunset visibility in the northern hemisphere).
Step Two. A) Create an APA formatted Reference of the article (author, date, title, journal name, page numbers, and retrieved information). This is so other students can easily locate the article if it is of interest to them. B) Next, create a very brief “key point” narrative summary or abstract of the article (use the heading Summary). If the article includes a brief abstract, you are welcome to use that (just make sure you attribute it to the authors).
Step Three. Create an evaluative statement (use heading: Evaluative Statement) related to your understanding of the material and/or the research findings. This could include comments on the significance of the research to the field/theory of the organizational learning. (How important, in your opinion, or how useful is this research to those who strive to develop influencing skills or influence in the organization? How does this research relate to influence? What did the authors discover about influence? Demonstrate your ability to generalize and to provide evaluative thinking. See Bloom’s Taxonomy provided at the end of this course outline). The expectation is 2-3 sentences.
Step Four. Create a description of the application, implications, and/or utility (Use heading: Application) of this article/research to developing, sustaining, or building influence in organizations. To what practical use is this research to building influence (and resulting performance) organizations/ How useful is it to a practitioner? The expectation is 2-3 sentences.
