You may explain one event twice or two different events. Your examples could be like the scenarios from the in-class inference assignment (a social situation or a disease, say) or like the examples in this essay. Next, offer first a causal and then a statistical relevance explanation of the event or phenomenon (you should have one of each). In each case, state explicitly the facts and the laws or rules you are applying to explain the event. For statistical rules, you need only state something like my invented examples, e.g., “doing X makes this outcome more likely/80% probable.” Try to make your two explanations notably different, to illustrate the distinction between strict causal explanation and statistical relevance explanation. You should end up with two or three paragraphs: I don’t expect this to be very long.
