Core Competencies of a Nurse Practitioner versus Nurse Educator
According to the National League for Nursing (NLN), there are eight fundamental competencies that all nurse educators ought to retain. The first competency would be to facilitate nursing whereby a nurse educator is expected to use their skill and training to establish a solid foundation upon which one would be able to apply a warm, individualistic and authentic style of teaching besides making use of a number of teaching strategies which are founded on the needs and outcomes of the learner (NLN, 2015). Another competency of a nurse educator is to serve as both a leader and an agent of change by getting involved in various aspects, which include the design of the curriculum, developing unique and effective experiences in nurse education and playing a role in shaping the future of both the nursing education and profession. On the other hand, major difference in the implementation of these competencies is that while a nurse educator is expected to integrate these competencies into their teaching roles, a nurse practitioner is expected to incorporate all the stated competencies into their day to day practice.
